Print lending, which ceased as library buildings closed, was the lone OhioLINK service adversely affected by COVID-19 . Library organizations and responsibilities have evolved, yet the ILS still focuses primarily on the acquisition, management, and delivery of objects. Our needs have outpaced existing offerings. We must shift our focus from collections to users. In this white paper, OhioLINK’s Library Advisory Council envisions moving beyond next-generation library systems to enable users' research, learning, and teaching. The OhioLINK ETD Center provides the largest open access collection of theses and dissertations in the world, according to Google Scholar. Thanks to open educational resources, every student enrolled in Ohio Dominican University’s Introduction to Statistics course during the 2018-19 academic year saved about $250 on the cost of a textbook – that’s $60,000 saved collectively by students at ODU between both fall and spring semesters! Be assured that we will promptly respond to your needs and support you as you support your students. Students and faculty will be able to borrow books for the fall semester. OhioLINK is happy to announce that on August 10th user-initiated borrowing will resume for participating libraries. The best place to get the most accurate local information will be at your own institution’s library. Lending between OhioLINK and SearchOhio (public libraries) has also resumed.
